Let's go through five incidents that rocked the cricketing world in 2022.
1. Non-striker run-out debate
At Lord’s, India Women by defeating England Women in the third ODI by 16 runs gave a perfect farewell to their star Jhulan Goswami. With the win, Harmanpreet Kaur and her girls whitewashed the English Women in the bilateral ODI competition. But their victory was overshadowed by an incident that happened in the match.
Batting first, India Women got dismissed at a paltry 169, but the Indian bowlers with their unwavering spirit fought in the game and set the stage on fire by dismissing nine English batters at the score of 118. But Charlotte Dean with her indomitable batting attitude hung in.
With just 17 required off 39 deliveries, the English team was cruising towards the win but Deepti Sharma, seeing the 21-year-old out of the crease before the delivery, used her astute mind and took advantage of the situation by running Dean out at the non-striker’s end to finish England's innings on 153 and sealed the victory for India.
The run-out sparked a huge debate as many cricketers stepped in by giving their views on the incident. While Michael Vaughan and James Anderson showed displeasure with Sharma’s way of dismissing Dean. On the other side, the 25-year-old also got backed by Jason Gillespie and Wasim Jaffer on the issue.
