4. 72 off 52 vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK), 2010
In 2010, Sachin Tendulkar dominated bowlers throughout the tournament with his brilliant batting skills. At the end of the competition, he ended up as the highest run-getter and brought the prestigious Orange Cap home. The leadership responsibility brought the best out in him.
After claiming three wins in their first four games, Mumbai faced Chennai Super Kings at their home venue, Brabourne Stadium. In the match, the hosts thumped the visitors by five wickets, riding on their skipper’s phenomenal knock of 72 runs off 52 deliveries. During his fabulous innings, Tendulkar scored nine boundaries (eight fours and a maximum).
Earlier, after winning the toss, MI chose to field first and their decision backfired when CSK piled up 180/2, with the help of Suresh Raina’s swift 83* (52) and S Badrinath’s steady 55* (45). Chasing the humongous score, the legend worked for MI as a bulwark against CSK bowlers and left his team in a comfortable position to win the game before getting out.
