Spinners Harbhajan Singh and Nitish Rana hold the joint record and have leaked the second-highest number of runs in the first over of a match. Former Mumbai Indians player- Harbhajan became an easy target for KKR explosive hitter Yusuf Pathan and Gautam Gambhir during a match in 2013.

Right from the word ‘go’, Yusuf went berserk as he clobbered three boundaries in a row and followed it with a six and single before Gambhir took strike. Notably, the miseries continued for Harbhajan as he bowled a no-ball prior to the single which resulted in another maximum by Gambhir, thereby concluding with 26 runs.

Likewise, in the 16th edition of the IPL, during the clash between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders, Yashasvi Jaiswal targeted rival skipper Nitish Rana, for a mammoth 26 runs. The young southpaw clobbered two maximums off the first two deliveries, the only other instance (Kohli in 2019 against Aaron) wherein a batter started the game with two sixes.

Jaiswal unleashed carnage at the iconic Eden Gardens as he got two fours on the trot coupled with a double and finally concluded the over with a boundary making it 26 runs in six balls (6, 6, 4, 4, 2, 4). In doing so, Nitish Rana recorded one of the worst opening spells in the IPL along and joined the second spot in the list alongside Harbhajan Singh.

The flamboyant opener scored an unconquered 98 off mere 47 balls featuring five sixes and 12 fours at a stunning strike rate of 208.51. Jaiswal is also in contention to clinch the IPL Orange Cap, courtesy of four fifties and one century, collecting 575 runs in 12 matches.
