2. Mashrafe Mortaza 4-38 against India, 2007 50-Overs World Cup
Bangladesh, in the 2007 50-overs World Cup were facing India in their first match. With a star-studded Indian team, everyone was expecting India to register an easy victory over the Bangla Tigers and go to the next level of the competition but it was the indomitable spirit of Mashrafe Mortaza that spoiled India’s plans to have an easy cakewalk.
Spearheading the bowling attack, Mortaza provided an early breakthrough to the team by dismissing Virender Sehwag with an impressive inswinger. Later, he also got rid of Robin Uthappa on a swinging delivery outside off stump. By virtue of his amazing start other Bangladesh bowlers got a chance to take advantage of the situation and create more pressure on India.
With his magnificent bowling effort, the Bangla Tigers wrapped up India’s innings for a score of 191. Mortaza by clinching the wickets of Ajit Agarkar and Munaf Patel became the highest wicket-taker for his team in the match with the figures of 4-38 in 9.3 overs. His scintillating performance in the game not only won him the Player of the Match award but also helped Bangladesh to register a memorable win.
