5. Joe Root
Joe Root is the only player in the list who did not play a single limited-overs fixture in international cricket in 2024. All his runs came in the longest format of the game, where he went on to achieve several incredible feats.
The right-handed batter scored a whopping 1556 runs from 31 innings in Test cricket. In October, Root surpassed Alastair Cook to become England's highest run-getter of all time. Root notched up an impressive tally of six centuries and five half-centuries in 2024.
