WPL 2023: 5 Indian bowlers to watch out for
Here are five Indian bowlers who could deliver remarkable performances to their franchises in the maiden season of the WPL.
On February 13, 448 players went under the hammer at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai to feature in the tournament to be played from March 4 to March 26. However, out of the huge number, only 87 players got picked at the event. Players such as Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Nat Sciver-Brunt, and Ashleigh Gardner received heavy sums due to their exceptional batting and all-round records.
Talking about bowlers, some renowned Indian players got decent deals from the franchises. Keeping Indian conditions in mind, the buyers didn’t hesitate to spend huge bucks on these quality local bowlers. Now, after winning the confidence of the franchises, these names will look to deliver solid bowling numbers to their respective WPL squads. Their records and experience will also boost the confidence of these bowlers to shine in the competition.
Here are 5 Indian bowlers to watch out for in the upcoming WPL competition:
5. Pooja Vastrakar
Pooja Vastrakar had her name at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction with a base price of INR 50 lakh. Considering her talent and fine bowling numbers for the national team, Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI) engaged in a bidding battle and the latter won it.
The pacer went to MI for INR 1.9 crore and now, she will be seen spearheading the team’s bowling attack with her excellent skills. Currently, she has taken over 50 wickets in international cricket in 75 games. Talking about her WT20I record, Vastrakar has picked 30 wickets in 47 games, at a fine economy of 6.14.
In the recently passed Women’s T20 World Cup, she struggled to be among wickets. The 23-year-old could pick only two wickets in four games of the tournament at an economy of 7.21. After failing to deliver her best for the national team at the marquee event, she will strive to find form in the inaugural edition of the WPL.
