WPL 2023: Top 5 batting performances from second week
Some quality batters set the second week of WPL 2023 ablaze with their stunning performances.
3. Harmanpreet Kaur - 51 runs off 30 balls vs Gujarat Giants
Mumbai Indians locked horns with Gujarat Giants in the 12th match of the ongoing edition of WPL. Gujarat won the toss and decided to field first. Sneh Rana & Co. had an ideal start with the ball as they got rid of Hayley Matthews in the first over itself. However, Yastika Bhatia and Nat Sciver-Brunt notched up a 74-run stand for the second wicket to put the pressure back on the opposition.
However, Gujarat got rid of both the set batters in the span of eight deliveries to get back into the game. The Mumbai franchise needed a partnership and Harmanpreet Kaur and Amelia Kerr provided the same. The duo stitched a 51-run stand, with the MI skipper being the major contributor.
After Kerr got out for 19 runs, Gujarat took wickets at regular intervals. Despite the wickets falling at one end, Harmanpreet stayed positive and kept putting bowling attacks under the pump with her glorious stroke play. She smashed 51 off 30 and riding on her knock, Mumbai posted 162 runs on the board. Gujarat, in reply, could only score 107 runs in 20 overs and Harmanpreet & Co. won the game by 55 runs.
