WPL Auction 2024: 5 Capped players who might go unsold in the upcoming auction
Out of 56 capped names, some players' recent performances may fail to attract buyers in the upcoming auction on December 9.
1. Sophia Dunkley
In the 2023 WPL auction, Gujarat Giants (GG) reserved Sophia Dunkley’s services for INR 60 lakh for the inaugural season of the tournament. The Gujarat-based outlet gave the English batter the task to strengthen the side as an opener but she failed to justify her role in the side.
The GG team management gave her eight games in the competition but she couldn’t take advantage of those opportunities. The youngster ended her tournament with only 121 runs in six innings at a horrendous average of 20.16. Dunkley will be one of the 56 capped players in the upcoming auction.
At the massive business event in Mumbai, franchises might now show any interest in the 25-year-old as her miserable performance for the Melbourne Stars in the 2023 WBBL may not show her a reliable player to invest in. In 14 games, she scored only 217 runs for the Stars at a disheartening strike rate of 110.71.
