Reports: Cricket Australia finalise the new head coach of the team

Australian cricket is going through a turmoil currently following the ball-tampering scandal which took place in Cape Town last month. There were ugly fallouts of the incident as Steve Smith and David Warner were banned for 1 year by Cricket Australia (CA) and Cameron Bancroft was slapped with a ban of 9 months. Though the name of head coach Darren Lehmann was cleared, he also resigned from the position. However, Cricket Australia has now finalised his replacement at the helm and will soon announce the name officially.

Lehmann was widely criticised after it was cleared that he didn’t know about the plan that was set up by the three banned players. But after watching the heartbreaking press conferences of Bancroft and Smith, he decided to give up the role following the abuse his family had to suffer after the incident. Tim Paine was appointed as the skipper of the Test team in the middle of the tour as they lost the Test series in South Africa for the first time since 1992.

Who is the new coach?

Justin Langer is set to take up the coaching duties of Australian cricket team according to the reports in The West Australian. The board will officially announce the same on Friday when they will meet. He has the experience of coaching Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers for the past five seasons and has won three titles in Big Bash League (BBL) and a couple of one-day titles.

Langer’s first challenge as the head coach of the Australian cricket team would be the five-match ODI series in England in June which will be followed by the one-off T20 International. The team will also tour UAE to play a Test series against Pakistan, the itinerary of which is yet to be finalised. Australia was whitewashed last time when they had toured UAE under the leadership of Michael Clarke.
