Cricket Australia officials will be in India to sort off issues with BCCI: Reports
The main reason for the bitterness between the two boards is the dispute over the men’s bilateral ODI series.
In recent times, India and Australia have developed quite a bit of rivalry on the cricket field. However, the two boards seem to have landed up in bitter taste. The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) and Cricket Australia (CA) have been involved in a dispute over a men’s bilateral ODI series to be played later this year.
According to the Future Tours Programme, the Aussies are scheduled to tour India for three ODIs in January 2020. However, it falls during the peak of the Australian summer which will have an effect on the cricket being played back in Australia. There is pressure from the broadcasters as well. Hence, there was a request to postpone the series to March 2020. However, BCCI seems to have declined the request.
As a result, there seems to be a gap created between the two top cricketing boards of the world. According to a report, top Australian officials will likely be making their way to India later next month. “Roberts had tentatively planned to travel to India next month and it now seems likely that trip will go ahead with Eddings in tow. Far from spoiling for a fight, the power imbalance with India means they might as well be turning up with their tails between their legs,” a Business Standard report quoted.
Stopping top Australian women’s cricketers for the T20 extravaganza a ‘pressure tactic’
When BCCI released the three women’s squads for the upcoming Women’s T20 Challenge, it was a surprise not to see any of the top Australian cricketers in any of the squads. Last year, five Australians took part in a similar Exhibition game. Meg Lanning, Alyssa Healy, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt and Beth Mooney all played the lone T20 game in the middle of the IPL season. However, they have been stopped from participating in this year’s event.
The main reason is the dispute between the two boards over the men’s bilateral ODI series. CA boss Belinda Clark reportedly sent an email which prompted the trio of Meg Lanning, Ellyse Perry and Alyssa Healy would not travel to India as a ‘pressure tactic’ so that BCCI postpones the ODI series to March 2020.
