ODI World Cup 2023: Best Injured XI

The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is just around the corner and the excitement for the same is in the air. All of the teams have announced their playing 15-member squads for the tournament as well. The World Cup will be played from October 5 onwards and will be solely hosted by India for the first time. Unfortunately, almost all of the teams are also dealing with injuries to some of their main players and are scrambling to find alternatives. Besides, they are also waiting for the new updates by medical staff on the injured players before finalizing their squads. As per the ICC rules, all the participating teams had to name an initial squad by September 5. Teams can make as many changes to their initial squad as they want until September 27. By September 28, teams need to have their final squads ready. Any changes after that will require prior approval from the ICC. In the same vein, here's the World Cup Winning Injured XI who may miss playing ODI World Cup 2023: 1. Travis Head (AUS) Gerald Coetzee and Travis Head. (Photo Source: Twitter) Travis Head is one of the key members of Australia's squad ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023. He was recently participating in the South Africa limited-overs series in the rainbow nation and his injury came in the 4th ODI in Centurion. Geral Coetzee’s fast-paced short ball thudded into Head’s left hand and the batter was in immense pain though he tried to bat through the pain, he had to retire hurt. Later the Australia coach confirmed that Head had suffered a fracture in his left hand and further scans will be needed to gauze the severity. 2. Jason Roy (ENG) Jason Roy of England. (Photo by Michael Steele/Getty Images) England opener Jason Roy has been struggling with a back injury lately. He had another back spasm in the days leading up to the game on Wednesday and had to miss the third One Day International of the series against New Zealand. He is believed to have been having trouble with the injury lately and gave a ginger performance during practice on Tuesday, before the most recent flare-up. 3. Steve Smith (AUS) Steve Smith departs after getting out. (Photo Source: Twitter) Ace Australian batter Steve Smith was ruled out of the South Africa tour in the aftermath of a wrist tendon injury he had suffered during the Ashes 2023 series, which ended in a 2-2 draw in England. Smith picked up the injury while playing in the Lord’s Test of the Ashes and got sidelined. He tried wearing splints but later opted for cortisone injections to solve his injury woes. His next assignment will be the three-match ODI tour of India before the World Cup 2023. 4. Kane Williamson (NZ) Kane Williamson (Photo Source: Twitter) Kane Williamson, though he has been named in New Zealand’s World Cup 2023 squad as captain, has not played a single game since injuring his knee during IPL 2023. Williamson, who had turned out for Gujarat Titans, suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee while attempting a catch. He was ruled out of the tournament and had to undergo surgery in New Zealand for the same. He has batted in nets and the 33-year-old had been given two weeks to prove his fitness for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 in India. 5. Rishabh Pant (IND) Rishabh Pant (Photo Source: Hannah Peters/Getty Images) Rishabh Pant’s absence will be a huge one for India in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023. The livewire keeper-batter has been recovering from a near-fatal car accident in which he was involved in December 2022. He was driving from Delhi to his hometown, Roorkee, and his car overturned and caught fire on the highway. Pant was rescued by locals and after receiving treatment at a local hospital, was airlifted to Mumbai, where he underwent knee surgery. Since then he has been recovering and has been under rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and most recently has started heavy training for batting and keeping at the facility. 6. Glenn Maxwell (AUS) Glenn Maxwell Injured. (Photo Source: Twitter) Glenn Maxwell had suffered a freak fracture to his left leg while running around in the backyard of a friend’s house during a party. He slipped and this caused his leg to break in half in November 2022. He had undergone surgery and missed quite a bit of cricket including the T20 World Cup at home. Most recently, he also missed the South Africa white-ball tour as he suffered an ankle injury on the same leg that he had broken some time back. Maxwell's injury comes right ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023, set to be played in India in October and November. 7. Tim Southee (NZ) Tim Southee. (Photo Source: Gareth Copley/Getty Images) One of the latest casualties ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023, New Zealand will most likely miss the services of experienced pacer Tim Southee. Southee, dislocated and fractured a bone in his right thumb while taking a catch in slips in an ODI against England. Less than three weeks before the start of the World Cup in India, this setback has put New Zealand in serious trouble as an X-ray confirmed that Southee had broken his thumb, ruling the pacer out of the remainder of the England tour. 8. Wanindu Hasaranga (SL) Wanindu Hasaranga. (Photo by Albert Perez-ICC/ICC via Getty Images) Ace Sri Lankan spinner, Wanindu Hasaranga recently missed the entire Asia Cup 2023 tournament after suffering a thigh strain which led to him missing the LPL 2023 final as well. Sri Lanka intends to have Hasaranga available for the World Cup and, as such, will be conservative with his reintroduction to top-flight cricket. This means Hasaranga might miss the first few matches of the Sri Lankan team in the upcoming ICC World Cup. 9. Ebadot Hossain (BAN) Ebadot Hossain. (Photo Source: Twitter) Bangladesh pacer Ebadot Hossain will miss the ICC World Cup 2023 due to a knee injury that he had suffered against Afghanistan during a home ODI series. He had missed the Asia Cup 2023 as well and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief selector Minhajul Abedin confirmed that the pacer will miss the World Cup with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. 10. Dushmantha Chameera (SL) Dushmantha Chameera. (Photo Source: Daniel Pockett-ICC/ICC via Getty Images) Dushmantha Chameera will miss the World Cup 2023 with a pectoral injury he suffered in the Lanka Premier League. The pacer already missed the Asia Cup 2023 tournament. He is among the most experienced pacers in Sri Lanka, with 50 wickets in 44 ODIs, and will be a big miss for Islanders. 11. Naseem Shah (PAK) Naseem Shah (Photo Source: Twitter) One of the biggest blows to Pakistan came when 20-year-old Naseem Shah suffered a shoulder injury during the Super 4s stage encounter of the Asia Cup 2023 against India in Colombo recently. Pakistan immediately rested the pacer for their next match against Sri Lanka and sent him for scans in Dubai. Unfortunately for them, the scans revealed that the young fast bowler could be sidelined for the remainder of the year, effectively ruling him out of the highly anticipated World Cup.
