India wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik turned 36 on Tuesday, June 01, and fans across the world have flooded him with birthday wishes. Many former cricketers and experts too have come with something unique or the other.

Karthik was last seen during the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He could not set the stage on fire but was the team’s calming influence and a constant guide to KKR skipper Eoin Morgan. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 123 runs in seven games, often chipping in with vital runs down the order.

The likes of Shreyas Iyer, Vinod Kambli, Wasim Jaffer, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, BCCI, KKR, and Mumbai Indian were among the various prominent ones to wish the wicketkeeper-batter.

Yuvraj Singh though had a very unique message for Karthik on his birthday to “be less hyper this year”, Meanwhile, Kambli mentioned that he should not be remembered just for his Nidahas Trophy heroics. Here’s how the cricket fraternity wished him on his 36th birthday.

Karthik instantly shot to fame in the finals of 2018 when he finished the match with a glorious six when five runs were needed off the last ball against Bangladesh. His 29 runs off eight balls was one of the best innings in the tournament and briefly put Karthik as Team India’s designated finisher along with former skipper MS Dhoni.

Kambli also mentioned on Tweet that apart from his Nidahas Trophy brilliance, Karthik also had the second-best strike rate among Indian batters in T20Is.

Karthik was always seen in the shadows of Dhoni and he could not actually cement his spot as a designated wicketkeeper-batter in the Indian team since making his debut in the year 2004. He was always in and out of the squad in his initial part of the years. Later he was given a longer run in the team since 2017 and was also part of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 semi-final match against New Zealand.

The right-hand batter though could not seal the finisher slot as he could not score vital runs whenever the opportunity presented itself and has currently fallen off the selectors’ radar. So far Karthik has scored 3176 in 152 matches across all the formats.
