Afghanistan will take on Sri Lanka in the 32nd match of the ongoing T20 World Cup at the Gabba on November 1. With group leaders New Zealand almost having one foot in the semi-final and tournament favourites England and Australia fighting for the other spot, Sri Lanka need to win this game to give themselves an outside chance of making it to the knockout stage.

Sri Lanka come into the game after suffering back-to-back defeats against Australia and New Zealand and are on the verge of being eliminated from the tournament. The Islanders, who made it through to the Super 12 stage after playing the qualifiers will hope to finish in the top four of Group 1 to ensure their automatic qualification for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan have been left dry by the rain in Australia as two of their scheduled fixtures so far has ended in washouts, potentially ending their semi final hopes. The game against Sri Lanka come as an opportunity for them as they will face the defending champions in their final game of the Super 12 stage.

Pitch Report

The surface at the Gabba has historically gotten better as the match progresses. The team bowling first will definitely get an edge in the contest as the new ball does move around a bit in the early part of the innings. The team winning the toss would be inclined to bowl first at this venue.

Probable Top Performers from AFG vs SL

Probable best batter: Kusal Mendis

Sri lanka's Kusal Mendis was the star for the team during the group stages of the tournament but has not been able to replicate the same form in the Super 12 stage. He has failed to breach the ten-run mark in his previous two outings against Australia and New Zealand, weakening the team's efforts.

Probable best bowler: Wanindu Hasaranga

Wanindu Hasaranga was torn apart by the Aussies, especially Marcus Stoinis in Sri Lanka's crucial encounter against the defending champions. He conceded 53 runs, the most in his T20I career and returned without a wicket to his name. But the star spinner bounced back in style against the Kiwis, conceding just 22 runs in his four overs. He is the leading wicket-tacker in this year's edition with ten scalps to his name in six outings.
