'I think there are a few loose ends' - Hashan Tillakaratne wants Bangladesh women to seal series in 2nd ODI vs India

Bangladesh women scripted history on Sunday, July 16, as they beat India women in the first-ever ODI played between the two teams by 40 runs. After being put in to bat first, Bangladesh were bundled out for 152 in 43 overs. In reply, India were dismissed for just 113 with seamer Marufa Akter picking 4/29 in seven overs. 

Following Bangladesh’s historic win, head coach Hashan Tillakaratne said that they were looking for at least a score of 200 plus as the wicket was low. However, he assured that they will work on the shortcomings and will make a strong comeback in the second ODI. 

"Well, we were looking at at least 200 plus because the wicket was keeping low, there were no demons on the wicket The wicket played really well. Unfortunately, our batters faltered and were short by 50-60 runs. I think there are a few loose ends that we need to tighten up before the second one,” Tillakaratne was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Meanwhile, despite the win captain Nigar Sultana is aware of the challenge that India will pose in the remaining two games. She further revealed that she has told her teammates to hold the celebration till they win the series.

“The girls were excited (after the win) but I told them we have not done our job yet. We know if we can play good cricket we will move one step and it will be a huge achievement for us. So far I have held them from celebrating as I feel we still have few things left to achieve. If we can win the series we will celebrate I guess,” Sultana said.

Bangladesh beat India for first time in T20Is recently

Notably, Bangladesh also beat India for the first time ever in T20Is in the third T20I of the series on Thursday, July 13, by four wickets. It was their first-ever win against India after seven consecutive losses.

Meanwhile, India will look to bounce back after back-to-back losses against the hosts as the two teams square off in the second ODI on Wednesday, July 19, at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, in Dhaka.
