100 per cent everyone believes India will win WTC Final on Day 5: Mohammed Shami
India need 280 runs on Day 5 to win the second edition of the World Test Championship.
Ace pacer Mohammed Shami is confident that the Indian team can chase 280 runs on Day 5 and win the the World Test Championship against Australia. Notably, India already lost three crucial wickets on the penultimate day as Virat Kohli (44) and Ajinkya Rahane (20) are currently batting in the middle. The experienced duo will have to give India a proper start on Day 5 to help the team win their first ICC trophy since the 2013 Champions Trophy.
Speaking about the same, Shami mentioned that scoring 280 will not be a problem if India bats well throughout the course of the day. He also added that the batters should not look at the score and focus only on getting the job done in the middle. He believes that the chances of success are higher but cautioned the batters that they shouldn’t hurry and play normally.
“100 per cent everyone believes that tomorrow we will win the match. Because we have always fought. We perform well around the world. Not here only. So, we believe and we always come together to win this match,” Shami said at the press conference.
“According to me, if you bat well, 280 runs - is not a big score. So, according to me, you should bat normally as a Test match. You should focus on playing ball by ball. You should not look at the long target. So, according to me, chances of success are higher there. When you keep small goals and targets, you will get more success. So, you should play normally," the 32-year-old added.
Notably, 444 runs have never been successfully chased in the history of cricket, let alone Test cricket. Thus, Kohli and Rahane have a daunting task on their hands and will have to repeat something similar to what Rishabh Pant and Cheteshwar Pujara did at the Gabba two years ago. However, the morning session is going to be very important for both teams, as it can very well decide the fate of the game.
