Shardul Thakur's remarkable knock helped Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on April 6 in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Many people have praised the all-rounder's performance, including the legendary Indian batter Virender Sehwag. Notably, after the match, Sehwag dropped a tweet, praising Thakur and Rinku Singh as 'Lords.'

During a conversation, KKR keeper-batter Rahamanullah Gurbaz told Thakur about Sehwag's Tweet. Shardul was very happy after getting to know about Sehwag's comments about him, and responded with a big smile that he had only learned from the former Indian batter. He also stated that no one can strike a fast bowler like Sehwag.

"Paaji, aap se hi to seekhe hai. Aap to Guru ho clean hitting ke. Aapse accha kaun maarta hai fast bowler ko? Hum bhi dekh dekh ke hi seekhe hai. (Sir, I have learnt it from you only. Who else could hit a fast bowler better than you? We have learnt by watching you play)," Shardul was quoted as saying by News18.

Here's Sehwag's tweet:

KKR beat RCB by 81 runs in Kolkata

KKR's IPL 2023 campaign began with a dismal loss to Punjab Kings (PBKS). KKR's top order, except Rahamanullah Gurbaz, struggled to get going and could not spend much time on the pitch. Gurbaz scored 57 off 44 balls, including six boundaries and three maximums. When the team was down to 89/5, Thakur came in and teamed up with Rinku Singh.

The pair put on a 103-run stand, propelling KKR to a mammoth total of 207 runs in 20 overs. Shardul continued to viciously attack the opposition bowlers, scoring 68 runs in 29 deliveries to reach a critical half-century, including nine boundaries and three maximums. Rinku, on the other hand, scored 46 off 33 balls.

The 31-year-old all-rounder’s innings is now the third-highest individual score by a No. 7 batter in the cash-rich league. His partnership with Rinku is also the third-highest for the 6th wicket or below.

The RCB batting line-up collapsed while chasing the target, being bowled out for 123 runs. KKR spinners Varun Chakravarty and impact player Suyash Sharma excelled as KKR registered their maiden victory in the ongoing IPL. Chakravarty claimed a four-wicket haul while Suyash took three key wickets.
