After the conclusion of the fourth Test, when asked by the media for his reaction on Mohammad Shami being subjected to chants of 'Jai Shri Ram' by fans in Ahmedabad, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said that he had no knowledge of it.

During the fourth Test, the fans at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium who had gathered to witness the action on the final day, started squealing chants of 'Jai Shri Ram' for Mohammad Shami. A video has surfaced on social media which had fans cheering for players who were standing on the sidelines before the start of the day's proceedings.

Amidst the cheers, chants of 'Jai Shree Ram' could be heard and towards the end of the video, a clear mention of addressing Shami on one of the chants is audible. This happened as the players were gearing themselves up before both the teams took field on Monday morning. Shami, however, didn't pay any heed to the chants and walked away.

The matter was then raised by the media during the post-match press conference to which, Sharma replied that he had no idea of the occurrence of any such incident during the match. With a flummoxed look on his face, Sharma, who was utterly shocked to hear of it, said the following:

"I am absolutely unaware of Jai Shri Ram chants for Shami. I just heard it for the first time. I don't know what has happened there".

Fans on social media have called the action of the crowd 'insensitive' and have strongly reacted to the matter.

"Shami... Jai Shree Ram"... If this indeed happened before the start of the 4th test of the #BorderGavaskarTrophy in Ahmedabad, it makes me puke at the insensitivity from certain pricks. I'd ban these fellows from attending any games here after!

India confirms spot in WTC Final

Earlier, good news came India's way as a draw in the final Test ensured India a berth in the World Test Championships Final, scheduled to be held at The Oval from June 7. After obtaining a 91-run lead in the first innings, India would have hoped for an early destruction to the Australian batting order on Monday morning to ignite some outside chances of a victory.

But as opener Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne came together to play two steadfast knocks, a draw seemed inevitable. The duo put together 139 runs for the second wicket before Head was clean bowled by Axar Patel, thus missing his first century in India by 10 runs. Labuschagne then put 22 more runs on the board along with stand-in skipper Steve Smith, before both the teams decided to call it a day.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka lost the first Test against New Zealand on Monday, which rendered them disqualified from the race of WTC Final as they could have, in no way, matched up India's win percentage. Kane Williamson stood tall as he steered New Zealand to a deciding victory, ably assisted in his mission by Daryl Mitchell. Chasing a target of 285 in the final innings, Williamson scored an unbeaten 121 whereas Mitchell scored 81 to take New Zealand home.
