Australia wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey has been given a deadline to pay the barber after heading out to feature in the Ashes 2023 in England without paying. Carey has to pay £30 to the barber, Adam Mahmood, after the end of the third Test at Headingley.

Mahmood stated that he is ready to wait for the money after the Aussie promised to pay later due to the fact that he did not have any notes on him.

On the eve of the third Test, Carey went to Doc Barnet's Barber Shop in Leeds with fellow teammates Marnus Labuschagne, David Warner, and Usman Khawaja. While the others sat for photos with the barber and paid for haircuts, the keeper-batter refused to be photographed and left without paying. Notably, the shop does not accept credit cards, so the cricketer told the barber he would transfer the money later.

"They all came in just before we shut. We cut their hair and had a great laugh. But we don’t accept cards and Alex said he had no cash on him. Well, there’s a Tesco cash machine literally round the corner he could have run to. He could have nipped back to their hotel and been no more than five minutes but instead, he said he would transfer it. Maybe he forgot. I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt but if it’s not paid by Monday, I won’t be happy," Adam said as quoted by The Sun.

Carey has been labelled a 'cheat' for stumping his England counterpart Jonny Bairstow in the second Test at Lord's after the batter stepped out of his crease after dodging Cameron Green's bouncer. However, the Aussie quickly threw the ball and managed to hit the stumps. Later, the third umpire ruled Bairstow out, but the dismissal sparked a debate as cricket pundits opined that it contradicted the Spirit of the Game.

Speaking of the Headingley Test, Australia bundled out England by 237 runs after scoring 263 in their first innings. Pat Cummins led his team from the front, claiming a six-wicket haul. Australia were 116/4 at stumps on Day 2, with Travis Head (18*) and Mitchell Marsh (17*) at the crease, leading by 142 runs.
