Alex Carey wary of Rizwan-Jamal trouble on Day 4 in Sydney

The third Test, in Sydney, between Australia and Pakistan, turned on its head in the final session on Day 3. As many as 11 wickets fell in the last session, with Pakistan leading by 82 runs, having just three wickets in the bank.

After bowling out Australia for 299, and taking a slender 14-run lead, Pakistan fans would have expected their batters to put on a strong display in the second innings. However, they didn't get off to a great start as they lost Abdullah Shafique and captain Shan Masood in the first and second over, respectively. A 57-run stand between Saim Ayub and Babar Azam steadied the ship before five wickets fell for just nine runs.

Mohammad Rizwan and Aamer Jamal remained unbeaten at Stumps on Day 3, with the tourists reeling at 68/7. Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the Aussie bowlers, as he dismissed four Pakistani batters with his disciplined bowling effort. The hosts are in a position of strength as Pakistan's lead isn't too worrisome at this stage. However, wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey is well aware of the batting prowess of Rizwan and Jamal, who have played some fighting knocks in the series thus far.

“We’ve got to come back tomorrow. We saw Rizwan and Jamal put on 80-odd each in the first innings," Carey was quoted as saying by India Today. 

There are some patches of rough outside the off-stump for the right-handers on the Sydney track and it has been a cause of concern for the batters. The pitch is also providing variable bounce and spinners are getting decent purchase off it. Pakistan could be in the hunt if they can stretch their lead close to 150 on Day 4.

“It’s not going to be an easy chase, we’ve seen the wicket play some tricks," Carey said.

David Warner will come out to bat for the last time in Test cricket in Australia's second innings. Carey felt that it would be fitting if the southpaw could hit the winning runs.

“In an ideal world, it will be Davey hitting the winning runs,” concluded Carey.
