Alyssa Healy, the dynamic Sydney Sixers star, faces an uncertain season ahead after she recently underwent surgery on her hand following a domestic mishap at her residence on Saturday evening. This unexpected setback has compelled Healy to withdraw from the highly anticipated Sydney Smash match. The injury casts a shadow of doubt over her WBBL campaign, raising concerns about her pivotal role as an Australian and Sixers cricketing luminary.

The Sydney Sixers' official statement has indicated a dearth of specifics concerning Alyssa's accident and the severity of her injury at present, promising forthcoming updates. Ellyse Perry, the skipper of the Sixers, speaking during the coin toss preceding the Smash match, alluded to the incident as a "pretty nasty accident." The club anticipates gaining a more comprehensive understanding of the situation within the next 48 hours.

Double blow for Sydney Sixers

In Alyssa Healy's absence, the responsibility of donning the wicketkeeping gloves is expected to fall upon the young talent, Kate Pelle, marking only her second appearance in the Women's Big Bash League. Pelle made her debut against the Melbourne Stars just last Thursday. The Sydney Sixers were dealt a double blow as Healy's injury was compounded by the loss of middle-order batter Mathilda Carmichael, who was sidelined due to a back strain sustained during the club's Saturday training session.

With Gabby Sutcliffe, a key bowler, sidelined due to injury, the Big Bash has granted approval for the inclusion of 18-year-old Frankie Nicklin as the Sydney Sixers' 13th player for the upcoming clash against the Thunder. Nicklin's role will be limited to serving as an emergency substitute fielder. The Sixers' subsequent fixture is scheduled against the Brisbane Heat at North Sydney Oval on Tuesday evening. At this juncture, the club has opted not to replace the wicket-keeper batter on their roster, expressing hope for her swift recovery and return to action.
