Amanjot Kaur's father reveals emotional story after her dream India debut

When a young Amanjot Kaur was called up to the India Women's team for the ongoing tri-series in South Africa, her parents did not expect her to be playing in India's very first game of the competition. However, destiny had other ideas as the 23-year-old not only made her debut for India but also went on to play a pivotal role in her side's victory. 

Amanjot Kaur got a chance to showcase her talents in India's series opener against the hosts on Thursday. She was a surprise inclusion into the playing eleven as several Indian players, including skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, were plagued by allergies. The young Indian cricketer walked into bat, with the team reeling at 69/5 on a sluggish surface.

Unlike many other senior batters on the day, Kaur wasn't perturbed by the slowness of the surface and rescued her side with a diligent stand along with all-rounder Deepti Sharma. After taking her time in the nascent stages of the innings, she ensured that India finished with a competitive score with an unbeaten 41 off 30 deliveries. While she was in the middle of a rescue act for her side, her family members, including her grandmother, were full of pride watching her represent the national team on television. 

"I was afraid that she might not get a game and it was late at night. So, I told her grandmother that the match would come on TV tomorrow and asked her to sleep. But around 11, she saw that the lights were on and asked us what was going on as we were watching the match. Aman was playing as well, so she sat down and enjoyed the entire match with us,” a delighted Amanjot's father told The New Indian Express.

Amanjot's father ensured that his daughter got the best possible training during her initial years

Bhupinder Singh, Amanjot's father, was a woodwork contractor and carpenter but wanted to see his daughter pursue a career in cricket after watching her play. He quit his job and relocated so that his daughter could get the required training to become a full-fledged cricketer.

"They told me that she has to join the school to train in the academy in sector 26, and I was ready. There were no slots there and someone told me about the academy in sector 32 with Nagesh sir. I went and stood at the gate all day, and he asked me to bring Amanjot. Once seeing her bowl, he took her under his wings immediately,” added Bhupinder.
