Team Sri Lanka continued their good run in the Super Four stage of the 2022 T20 Asia Cup as they defeated Pakistan in the last league match played at the Dubai International Stadium on September 9 (Friday). The Men in Green looked lackadaisical in their approach as the Sri Lankan side demolished the Men in Green before the all-important final match of the Asia Cup.

Talking about the match, Team Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Men in Green opening batters Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan gave a decent start, but a spirited Lanka side made a resounding comeback and ensured that the Men in Green do not cross the 130-run mark in their allotted 20 overs.

Wanindu Hasaranga was adjudged Player of the Match for his excellent bowling spell

In reply, Sri Lanka stuttered in the chase, but some good batting display from batter Pathum Nissanka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, and skipper Dasun Shanaka meant that Sri Lanka go in the final with a booster dosage. Ace spinner Wanindu Hasaranga was adjudged the Player of the Match for his valuable performance with the ball.

Losing skipper Babar Azam said:

" We played well in both games, but the batting has not been up to the mark. But surely impressed with our fast bowlers, Pakistan has always produced good pacers - the way Hasan made a comeback today was good. This was definitely a good learning experience, we will sit back and analyze this game, and see where we can improve for Sunday."

Winning skipper Dasun Shanaka said:

Always acceptable these kind of results. The combination we have with the left-arm fast bowlers, the leg spinners - the variation we have is amazing. I think the extras were a concern in this game, and the lines the fast bowlers bowled. These are areas we can improve, if we could get early wickets in the next game that will be good.

Player of the match Wanindu Hasaranga said:

I'm really happy because last few games I've given up some runs, but today I've made a comeback strongly with wickets. First two overs, I just tried to bowl dot balls and build the pressure. I always look to come on to the pitch positively and give my best.
