India and Bangladesh are locking horns in the last Super 4 fixture of Asia Cup 2023 on Friday, September 15 at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat first. The Shakib Al Hasan-led side didn’t get off to the best of the starts as they lost their openers Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das with just 15 runs on the board.

However, what caught the attention of the fans was star India batter Virat Kohli coming in as waterboy after the fall of the second wicket. During the fourth over of the innings, Shardul Thakur destroyed the stumps of Tanzid Hasan (13 off 12) to send him on his way back to the pavilion. As soon as the wicket fell, Kohli, who’s been rested for the game, walked in as waterboy to provide drinks to his teammates. The incident has gone viral all over social media.

Notably, India have made five changes to their playing XI as Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya have been rested. They’ve been replaced by Suryakumar Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur. Meanwhile, 20-year-old Tilak Varma has been handed his debut ODI cap.

Tilak Varma makes his ODI debut

Varma has impressed everyone in his short T20I career as he’s scored 174 runs from seven innings at an average of 34.80 with one fifty to his name. Following his marvellous show in his debut T20I series vs West Indies, there were widespread talks of bringing him into the ODI World Cup 2023 squad. However, he missed out from the mega event due to his lack of experience in the 50-over format but has got a much-deserved opportunity against Bangladesh.

Varma can even solve India’s long problem of having an extra bowler in the XI as he’s been seen as a possible bowling option by bowling coach Paras Mhambrey. He even practiced his off spinners in the nets during the optional practice session of the team in Colombo on Thursday, September 14.
