AUS vs IND 2024-25: Isa Guha's sensitive comments on Jasprit Bumrah reminds fans of another 'Monkeygate' episode
Isa Guha's comment on Jasprit Bumrah creates drama on social media as she compares the Star India bowler to a Primate
After a rain-marred Day 1 of the third Test between Australia and India, the second day finally saw an extended run of play at the Gabba, in Brisbane. The day was all about Australia for the majority part of the 87.4 overs bowled across three sessions.
The innings of Travis Head and Steve Smith created problems for the India bowlers as the two went on to score big hundreds and put the Aussies in a great position going into day 3 with wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey remaining unbeaten on 45 and will look to get the Aussies to a much bigger total going forward.
Meanwhile, former English pacer Isa Guha made a sensitively racial comment on India's star bowler Jasprit Bumrah while on air during the ongoing third Test. The cheeky statement from the commentator has caused a lot of outrage on social media, adding more off-field drama during the high-stakes series. Guha's comment during the live broadcast has also caused a lot of drama on social media as she compared the 31-year-old and number one-ranked Test bowler to a primate, which is another term for an ape or a monkey.
“Well, he’s the MVP, isn’t he? Most Valuable Primate, Jasprit Bumrah. He is the one that’s going to do all the talking for India, and why so much focus was on him in the build-up to this Test match, and whether he would be fit,” Guha told on air via Star Sports Network.

Bumrah completes 12th five-for
At Stumps, the hosts are leading the charge with a score of 405-7 at the end of Day 2 of the ongoing encounter. It might have been another disappointing day for the Indian bowlers except for Bumrah, who took another brilliant 5-wicket haul on Sunday, including the prized dismissals of Head and Smith as well. Yet another outstanding display by the Ahmedabad-born saw him complete his 12th fifer in red-ball internationals.
