AUS vs PAK: Ravi Shastri's bizarre fumble at the toss ahead of first Test goes viral

Former India cricketer turned commentator Ravi Shastri is one of the most loved voices in the cricketing world as he’s known for infusing energy into the most dull moments on the field with his powerful voice. Recently, Shastri has been onboarded by Kayo Sports in Australia to lend his voice during the action-packed season down under.

The legendary commentator known for making even the pre-match toss entertaining had a rare fumble during the toss time ahead of the first Test between Australia and Pakistan on Thursday, December 14 at Perth Stadium, Perth. While describing the conditions of the Optus Stadium in Perth, Shastri fumbled with the words ‘bounce and pace’ in what turned out to be a rather awkward moment in front of the camera.

Coming back to the match, Day 1 of the Test was dominated by Australia who rode on a spectacular hundred by David Warner to be in a commanding position at stumps. Openers Warner and Usman Khawaja got their team off to a sensational start after captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat first.

The duo got involved in a massive 126-run stand for the first wicket and ensured that Pakistan pacers didn’t make early inroads with the new ball. While Khawaja lost his wicket for 41, Warner went on to score a massive 164 (211) smashing 16 fours and four sixes in his innings. The knock was extremely crucial for the southpaw who has been struggling to score runs in the longest format since 2021.

Notably, it was the first century for Warner in 17 innings who’s been averaging 31.97 in Tests since 2021. The 37-year-old’s hundred was a statement for his critics especially former Australia cricketer Mitchell Johnson who had been after him for the past few days.

Courtesy of his innings, Australia finished Day 1 on 346/5 in 84 overs with Mitchell Marsh (15*) and Alex Carey (14*) at the crease. Debutant Aamer Jamal (2/63) was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan who dismissed Warner and Travis Head (40 off 53).
