Australia announce preliminary Champions Trophy 2025 squad, Cummins to lead amid ankle injury concerns

The best teams in world cricket are gearing up for the latest rendition of the Champions Trophy 2025. Being held in Pakistan with India playing their games outside of the country, the fans have been waiting in anticipation for yet another brilliant campaign of the marquee event. 

Pat Cummins will lead the Men in Yellow, with the likes of Alex Carey, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, and many more stars in the preliminary squad. The ODI World Cup 2023 champions will hope for yet another brilliant season and hope to get their hands on another ICC title.

It is worth noting that the 15-man squad will assemble and practice in Sri Lanka, playing an ODI after the Test series against them. Talking of the squad announcement, head of selectors, George Bailey took centre stage and admitted how balanced and optimised the preliminary squad looked.

“This is a balanced and experienced squad with the core having been involved in the previous one-day World Cup, the West Indies series, last year’s successful tour of the UK and the more recent Pakistan home series. It offers a variety of options for touring management depending on opposition and the conditions that may present in Pakistan,” Bailey told the reporters.

Australia qualified for WTC final ahead of Champions Trophy

Speaking of Australia, they are coming on the back of a brilliant Border-Gavaskar Trophy win against Team India. Notably, after losing the first Test in Perth, Australia managed to register wins in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney, and clinched the trophy, booking their berth in the WTC final as well. However, they will look to shift their focus onto the shorter formats and hope to do well in the upcoming Champions Trophy as well.
