Team India faced their second defeat of the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side took on Australia at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday, October 13, and the game saw the Aussies bat first and post a total of 151 runs on the board in the first innings.

In response, team India were only able to score 142 runs as they lost the game by nine runs, and faced their second defeat of the tournament. Currently, with four games played, India sits in second place in their group with two wins and two losses to their name.

After the loss, India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur took centre stage and talked about what went wrong for her side in the game. She talked about how Australia have a plethora of experience with them and good synergy since the players have played multiple World Cups together.

“They don’t have anything fixed. They can make a plan and play according to a pitch and situation. They aren’t dependent on one or two players, have plenty of all-rounders and the entire team contributes,” Harmanpreet said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

“I think the difference between them (and India) is that they didn’t give us easy runs. I think they have definitely the experience. They have played so many World Cups together. I think that is something that always shows them that they are a great side,” she said.

We knew this was a difficult tournament: Harmanpreet Kaur

Furthermore, the India skipper opined how she and Deepti Sharma could not make the most of a few loose balls that came their way. She admitted that they could have controlled the boundaries a bit better as well.

“I think we did really well (given the conditions). We knew this was a difficult tournament. When Deepti and I were batting, that time we were not able to utilise a few loose balls. We could have controlled the boundaries. I think we were still in the game. But then again, as we know their experience, they know how to win games like that. We have to learn from them,” Harmanpreet said.
