Australia Captain Pat Cummins likely to miss Champions Trophy 2025
"I think in the next week or so, he's got a scan coming," said Bailey.
After thrashing India at home in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Australia will next travel to Sri Lanka for the two-match Test series. The series holds less importance as the Aussies have made it to the World Test Championship 2025 final. Ahead of the series, the team missed the services of their captain, Pat Cummins, as he suffered ankle soreness.
Cummins is currently on paternity leave after leading Australia to a 3-1 victory against India. It is worth noting that, the pacer recently welcomed his second child and his travel to Sri Lanka was always sceptical. Australia’s Chief selector, George Bailey has confirmed that Cummins has opted for paternity leave while revealing the unfortunate news that he will also undergo scans for his ankle sore soon.
"Pat's obviously on paternity leave for the next little bit. There's a little bit of work to do. He's got a little bit of a sore ankle as well, so I think in the next week or so, he's got a scan coming, and we'll get a bit more information around where that's at," said Bailey as quoted by India Today.

Cummins likely to miss Champions Trophy 2025
This development has not only cast a shadow on Cummins’ induction in the Sri Lanka series but has also likely cast a shadow on his participation in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 scheduled to commence on February 19. However, Bailey was replied unsure, when queried about the pacer missing out on the tournament. He also gave an update on pacer Josh Hazlewood’s recovery.
"Not really sure yet. We'll have to wait and see where that scan comes back and where it's tracking,” Bailey said about Cummins.
"He's working really hard, and all the news on how he's responding to the calf injury is coming along really well. It was just probably a little bit tight (for this squad) given the amount of time he would've missed. Looking at how we may structure those loads for the quicks, it just worked out that unfortunately for him, he didn't quite get there in time. But we're really confident he should be fit and raring to go for the Champions Trophy,” he concluded.
