BAN vs IND: Ajay Jadeja warns Shubman Gill with Prithvi Shaw analogy
Shubman Gill brought up his maiden Test century against Bangladesh in the ongoing Chattogram Test.
Former Indian batter Ajay Jadeja gave a subtle warning to Shubman Gill, who brought up his maiden century in Tests, to not get overwhelmed with his maiden Test century and focus on future. Gill scored 110 off 152 balls against Bangladesh in the ongoing Chattogram Test in the second innings and his knock comprised of ten fours and three sixes.
While most experts heaped praises on the youngster, Jadeja wanted to ensure that Gill doesn’t follow the pattern of Prithvi Shaw who lost his place in the Test side despite having a strong start to his career. Keeping the matter intact, Jadeja explained the pressure Gill had to handle and advised the youngster for his future.
"A century in Test cricket is a very big moment. I don't even know how it feels. It is just a number but a very important one. I can only talk about myself and not about others. It is like passing an exam, this number has an effect like that. You can talk about the pressure or the wait for that, Shubman Gill needs to savor that moment. If you see Cheteshwar Pujara, who had scored 18 centuries, when he scored one after three years, it is a different celebration," Jadeja said on Sony Sports.
"I hope his wagon will only move ahead from here because this guy has shown that he is not one of those who have gone back after scoring one. Prithvi Shaw is also his age group, he scored a century in his first Test but he is not even around at the moment. So just like that wagon has gone back, this wagon is steadily moving ahead," he added.
Bangladesh battle hard in final innings
Meanwhile, India set a target of 513 for the hosts in the final innings to win the first Test and so far, the Bangladesh batters have applied themselves quite well. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Zakir Hasan’s opening stand of 124 finally came to an end in the second session on day four.
