BAN vs IND: Virat Kohli registers third lowest batting average ever in a calendar year
The former India captain slumped to a batting average of 26.50 in 2022 after being dismissed for a gritty one run knock off 22 deliveries.
Virat Kohli registered his third lowest batting average ever in a calendar year on Saturday, bringing an end to a forgettable year. The former India captain slumped to a batting average of 26.50 in 2022 after being dismissed for a gritty one run effort off 22 deliveries in the second Test against Bangladesh on Day 3.
His run in the Test series against Bangladesh saw him contribute the paltry scores of 1, 19 not out in Chattogram and 24, 1 in the Dhaka match. Incidentally, the Test series highlighted his continuous ups and downs in form, as his poor outings came after registering a century in Chattogram ODI.
However, it was still not the worst run for the Indian run machine in his nearly 15-year long career. He had a tumultuous run in 2020 (19.33) and 2011 (22.44) as well.
Virat Kohli vs Bangladesh in Tests
The premier India batter averages 54.62 vs Bangladesh in Test cricket since 2015. His impressive run against Bangladesh has saw him accumulate 437 runs with two centuries in nine innings. He has the highest score of 204 at a staggering average of 54.62 in the sub-continent.
Kohli, 36, is the sixth highest run scorer for India in the longest format. He has accumulated 8119 runs at an average of 48.90, laced with 27 centuries and 28 half-centuries at a staggering average of 48.90.
It is only in the longest format where he averages, mariginally, less than 50 currently after already setting the bar high as one of the best players across formats.
Meanwhile, India's next assignment will be against Sri Lanka, where they will host the Asian Champions in a limited-overs series, starting from January 3.
