BAN vs SA 2024: Temba Bavuma ruled out of first Test following tricep muscle strain
Dewald Brevis has been announced as Bavuma's replacement for the Dhaka Test.
South Africa are all set to travel to Bangladesh for their Test series for two matches, starting October 21. However, the Proteas have been handed a huge setback as Temba Bavuma, their skipper, has been ruled out of the first Test.
Bavuma's unavailability leaves a huge dent in the South African line-up, as they are carrying a fairly inexperienced side for the tour. The Cricket South Africa (CSA), on Friday, October 11, confirmed a left tricep muscle strain to be the reason for him being ruled out. Interestingly, Bavuma had also missed the last phase of the ODIs against Ireland due to a soft tissue injury, and now yet another injury adds to the woes of the rainbow nation.
To cover for Bavuma's absence, South Africa have added an uncapped Dewald Brevis to the squad. It is worth mentioning that the Proteas captain is expected to play the second Test, scheduled to be played at Chattogram's Zahur Ahmed Chaudhary Stadium from October 29.
Lungi Ngidi comes in for Nandre Burger
Another injury replacement for the upcoming tour is that of tall left-arm pacer Nandre Burger, who has been ruled out of the entire series following a lumbar stress fracture. The cricketer is set to under a rehabilitation under the watchful eyes of CSA and Western Province's medical teams.
Experienced seamer Lungi Ngidi has been called as his replacement by the board.
South African squad will reach Pretoria on Saturday for a camp ahead of the tour at the Centre of Excellence, which will run up until Monday, following which they will be heading to the Asian land for the scheduled Tests.
