BCCI announces schedule for India's home series against Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Australia
The schedule commences on January 3, 2023, and goes on till March 22, 2023.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s schedule for the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand starting January 3, 2023. After hosting the two teams, India will be hosting Australia for a red-ball series followed by three ODIs. All the games will be played in India as the BCCI announced a jam-packed schedule that ends on March 22.
India’s home season will begin when Sri Lanka tour India in January for a three-match T20I series followed by as many ODIs, and the games will be played at six different venues. After the conclusion of the Sri Lanka series, on January 15, India will host New Zealand for three T20Is and as many ODIs. Just like the Sri Lanka games, the six games against New Zealand will be played at six different venues.
The series against New Zealand will conclude on February 1, and India will be host to Australia from February 9th to March 22nd for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as the two teams will indulge in a four-match Test series followed by a three-match ODI series. Notably, this will be the last edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which will be a four-match Test series feature.
All three series include an ODI series, which will help the four teams prepare for the ODI World Cup 2023 which is set to be held in India. The teams that end in the top eight positions of the Super League points table will make their way to the marquee event. India being the hosts have earned automatic qualification.
Back-to-back games at home will help the Men in Blue understand the conditions and devise a plan accordingly for the ODI World Cup. The Test series against Australia will be of great importance as India aims to make it to the World Test Championship finals. To end up in the top two spots, India needs to win all the remaining Test matches before the summit clash.
