The interviews for the senior national selection committee are scheduled to be conducted on January 2 by the Ashok Malhotra-led Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). It is understood that the interview process is likely to be held in virtual mode.
After being appointed earlier this month in December, Malhotra and his team met with the BCCI office-bearers. In November, the BCCI invited applications for the selection committee and has received several applications. The board will shortlist the candidates and the names will be announced in a day or two.
Venkatesh Prasad, Nayan Mongia, Maninder Singh, Subroto Banerjee, Shiv Sundar Das are among the top candidates who have sent their applications. Earlier, the cricket board had sacked the previous selection committee headed by former cricketer Chetan Sharma. They subsequently invited fresh applications to fill the vacant slots.
Interestingly, Chetan Sharma and Harvinder Singh have re-applied for the role. Notably, neither of the two could complete their four-year tenure at the office. Meanwhile, currently in the absence of a designated committee, the old panel has been entrusted with the responsibility to handle the matters.
BCCI sacked Chetan Sharma-led selection committee after dismal outing in T20 World Cup 2022
The board decided to sack the previous management after India endured a dismal outing in the T20 World Cup 2022 held Down Under. The screeching halt in their campaign and exit in the Asia Cup 2022 held prior to the marquee event eventually opened the exit doors for them as the entire selction panel was sacked following the appointment of Roger Binny as the BCCI President.
Speaking about the selection process, the names enrolled should have retired from the game at least five years ago and should have played at least seven Test matches or 40 first-class matches or 10 ODIs and 20 first-class matches.
