The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday, May 02 invited applications for the position of India’s senior women’s team head coach. The position has been lying vacant since December, 2022 after Ramesh Powar was moved to the National Cricket Academy.

As per the notice issued by the Cricket board, candidates applying for the position must have represented India or any other country at the international level, or should have a minimum NCA level ‘C’ coaching certificate or a similar certificate from a reputed organisation along with a minimum of 50 first-class games’.

Candidates who have coached an international team for a period of a minimum of one season or have coached a T20 franchise for two seasons are also eligible to apply for the role.

The age criteria has not been specified by BCCI, however, candidates above 60 years of age are not considered for selection due to BCCI's policy. The role will be based in Mumbai and the candidate is expected to develop a cricket coaching setup.

The last date for applying for the post is May 10. After the final date, BCCI will be shortlisting the applicants who will be later interviewed by the Cricket Advisory Committee led by Ashok Malhotra as per the BCCI constitution.

BCCI to appoint the head coach till ODI World Cup 2025

Over the last few years, the Indian women’s cricket team has gone through several changes in its coaching staff. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led team went into the T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa without a head coach, after former coach Powar was transferred to the NCA.

There are two major ICC events lined up for the Women in Blue in the next two years namely the T20 World Cup 2024 and the ODI World Cup 2025. Hence, the BCCI is eager to appoint a long-term head coach for the team.

The duration of the tenure of the head coach has not been specified in the notice issued by the board. However, according to a report in SportStar, BCCI is looking to appoint a head coach at least till the ODI World Cup in 2025, which is scheduled to be held in India.
