BCCI to hold Special General Meeting on March 1, likely to appoint new joint secretary
"Notice is hereby given for a Special General Meeting of the BCCI which will be held at 12:00 PM IST on March 1, 2025, at BCCI headquarters at Mumbai," the board said.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), India's cricket governing body and richest boards in the world is set to host a special general meeting (SGM) on March 01. The purpose of the meet is reportedly directed at the appointment of a new joint secretary to Devajit Saikia.
President Roger Binny, Vice-President Rajeev Shukla, and the treasurer Prabhtej Singh Bhatia hold other key positions in the administrative body, and a new joint secretary will now be appointed, since the position has taken over by Saikia after the departure of Jay Shah, the newly-appointed International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman.
Notably, Saikia officially took over as the new secretary for BCCI on January 12, during the previous meet, where several key decisions like the WPL, IPL commencement dates and Champions Trophy squad were also discussed. Before this, Saikia, also an advocate, used to be an administrator at the Assam Cricket Association (ACA).
“Notice is hereby given for a Special General Meeting of the BCCI which will be held at 12:00 PM IST on March 1, 2025, at BCCI headquarters at Mumbai, to transact the business of Election and Induction of the Joint Secretary of BCCI,” a statement in the release read.
The members of the State association members whose names are doing rounds for the posts are Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Avishek Dalmiya (East Zone), Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) chief Rohan Jaitley (North Zone) and Mumbai Cricket Association's (MCA) Sanjay Naik (West Zone).

This will be the second SGM that will be held in less than two months the last one was held on January 12 where Saikia was elected as the new Secretary after Shah and the new treasurer was Prabhtej Singh Bhatia. The two were elected unopposed in the meeting. This is the new rule which is being followed instead of the elections. This seems to be a new rule that the board will be following to select their administrators.
