BPL 2023: Shakib Al Hasan, Anamul Haque, Nurul Hasan fined for Code of Conduct breach
All three players were involved in an argument before the start of the second innings during the seventh BPL match between Fortune Barishal and Rangpur Riders on January 10.
The star Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been fined 15% of his match fees for arguing with umpires during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) game between Fortune Barishal and Rangpur Riders on Tuesday (January 10). Nurul Hasan was also fined for disobeying the umpire's instructions under Article 2.4 of the BCB's Code of Conduct. Further, Anamul Haque was penalized for showing dissent at the umpire's decision
There was plenty of drama during the seventh game of the BPL 2023 as players were engaged in heated arguments with umpires. Shakib won the toss and invited Rangpur Riders to bat first at Shere Bangla Nationa Stadium in Mirpur. He took Mohammad Naim's wicket on the first delivery and restricted the Riders to 158/7 despite Shoaib Malik smashing 54* off just 36.
Fortune Barishal's openers Anamul Haque and Chaturanga de Silva entered the field in their chase with the ball in left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan's hand. But Shakib, from the boundary lines, instructed Haque to let the left-handed de Silva take a strike.
However, after seeing de Silva taking strike, Rangpur's skipper Nurul handed the ball to off-spinner Mahedi Hasan. But tight-hander Haque took strike again, which led Nurul to go back to Rakibul. But the real drama started when Shakib entered the field with his slippers on, which also led to a huge cheer from the crowd. Shakib argued with Nurul and the umpires as the tension grew in the middle.
This is the first time I saw the captain entering the field like that: Nurul Hasan
Fortune Barishal successfully chased the target with six wickets and four balls remaining with Shakib remaining on the bench. After the game, Nurul said that he was changing bowlers because Shakib was instructing from outside and he never witnessed any captain entering the field like that.
"I was changing the bowlers seeing Shakib bhai screaming from outside. This is the first time I saw (the captain entering the field like that)," Nurul Hasan said after the game.
Shakib, Nurul, and Anamul all admitted to the offence and avoided the formal hearing as they accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Akhtar Ahmad. Apart from the fines, all three players conceded one demerit point to their disciplinary record.
Shakib was also involved in a heated argument with umpires during Fortune Barishal's opening match against Sylhet Strikers on January 7. He lost his cool after umpire refused to signal a wide, which led Shakib questioning the official's decisions.
