One of the most significant athletes in the world is Virat Kohli. The cricket player's personal life and the rumours around him attract a lot of attention in India. Fans are kept interested by conversations on Kohli's cricketing and non-cricketing lives, even during cricket matches. Even the type of lunch Virat Kohli had with his colleagues earlier this year became a hot topic of conversation when he returned with the Ranji Trophy. Some broadcasters have even talked about Kohli's fondness for chhole bhature in the past and how he overcame that temptation to become the person he is now.
Instead of focusing on their preferred chhole bhature spot, Virat wants the broadcasters to tell stories about the athletes' preparation and activities to help India become a sports-forward country.
"We are working towards India becoming a sports-forward nation. We have the vision. We have the groundwork happening today. It should be a collective responsibility of everyone involved. It's not just about the infrastructure or the people who infuse the money. It's also about the people who watch. We need education," Kohli said at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit.
"A broadcast show needs to talk about the game and not what I ate yesterday for lunch or my favourite chole-bhature place in Delhi. You can't have that in cricket matches. Rather, you could talk about what an athlete is going through," he added.
Kohli has joined the Royal Challengers Bengaluru camp ahead of the Indian Premier League 2025 season. There were rumours that Virat would be the new captain of the franchise for the new season, but the RCB management decided to give it to their new star Rajat Patidar. However, Kohli will be their with the new captain throughout the season.
