Coimbatore man uses cricket bat to kill construction worker
A man named V. Manikandan was arrested for killing a construction worker with a cricket bat
V. Manikandan, based out of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu state, has been arrested for allegedly killing a construction worker from Madurai with the help of a cricket bat. The 36-year-old belonged to Pappampatti Road near Sulur, Gandhinagar, and was reported to have murdered Arumugam alias Sikkanthar, a Madurai district resident. According to the Hindu, the 35-year-old was from Sholavandan, Madurai.
As per the police's statement, Manikandan was alone since separating from his wife. During the summer vacation, the man had brought his son and daughter to spend time with him. He reportedly arranged a Television in an open area near his house to watch the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 with his kids.
Arumugam, who was in the arena temporarily for the construction of a building, came to the spot to watch the match. As per the allegations, the 35-year-old scolded Manikandan's daughter without provocation. Reportedly, it led to a brawl between the two. As per the police, Manikandan hit Arumugam's head and face with a cricket bat.
Sulur Police arrest the Coimbatore man for his crime
The statement from the police revealed that the impact was so deep that Arumugam passed away on the spot. The neighbours, who came to know about the incident, reported it to the Sulur police. The police forces wasted no time and shifted the dead body to a hospital for the sake of the post-mortem.
On Monday, after the incident, Manikandan was taken into judicial custody for his crime. The incident was reported after the match between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals in the ongoing IPL 2025, which saw a thrilling contest. MI choked DC and claimed a 12-run win, their second of the season.

For MI, Ryan Rickleton, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Naman Dhir shined with the bat, whose collective efforts helped them to reach a total of 205 runs. In reply, DC were sailing through, thanks to Karun Nair's 89(40), whose wicket led to the beginning of a collapse. MI beat DC due to some brilliance in the field.
