Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) set to meet on December 30, new selection committee likely to be on agenda

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) will be meeting in Mumbai on December 30 but the agenda of the meeting remains hidden. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed the three-member committee comprising Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape, and Sulakshana Naik on December 1. The first objective for CAC will be appointing the new members of the five-man senior men's selection committee in the coming days.

The BCCI took a big decision to overhaul the senior men's selection committee headed by Chetan Sharma within a week of India's embarrassing exit from the T20 World Cup 2022 last month. The Indian cricket board also invited new applications to fill the positions and then appointed two new members to its CAC to overview the selection process and select the next members for the selection committee.

More than 60 applicants to become a part of selection committee

The former cricketer Ashok Malhotra replaced Madan Lal, who was ineligible to continue due to the age limit of 70, in the current CAC and according to News18, he confirmed that the meeting will be happening on December 30. However, he didn't reveal the purpose of the meeting or whether it will be a formal or informal meeting. Malhotra has represented India in seven Tests and 20 ODI matches and previously served as the President of the Indian Cricketers' Association.

Jatin Paranjape, who replaced RP Singh in the current CAC, also featured for India in four ODI matches and was a member of the senior men's selections committee under the head, MSK Prasad. Sulakshana Naik is the third member of the current CAC with experience of international cricket with two Tests, 46 ODIs, and 31 T20Is and was a member of the previous Committee also. 

The CAC will be going through more than 60 applicants for the five-member selection committee positions. According to the criteria set by the BCCI, candidates would have retired from he game at least five years ago and should have played at least seven Test matches or 40 first-class matches or 10 ODIs and 20 first-class matches.
