Deepfake video of Virat Kohli advertising betting app goes viral

Ace Indian batter Virat Kohli is undoubtedly one of the most influential athletes, not only in India but in the world. However, his influence has been misused quite a few times with the use of AI and deep fakes. 

The same was the case when a video went viral, where a new broadcast was shown featuring an interview with Virat Kohli endorsing an online casino and promising its new users a guaranteed win of Rs 50,000 within three days. However, the clip was identified as a deep fake. 

The TV newscaster in the clip was also endorsing the online casino and betting app, which was also found to be a deep-fake video. The clip of Kohli was taken from an old interview with American journalist Graham Bensinger. The interview was uploaded on Bensinger's official YouTube channel on December 22, 2023.

Kohli welcomed in style ahead of IPL 2024

Speaking of Virat Kohli, the star batter is gearing up to represent Royal Challengers Bengaluru once again, with the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024 looming around the corner. 

The star batter was recently seen at the RCB unbox event at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The crowd gave Kohli a big cheer as he made an appearance at the event. 

Furthermore, the 35-year-old reached Chennai after the event for his first game of the IPL season as well. It is worth noting that RCB will take on the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings in the season opener of the IPL 2024 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on March 22. 

RCB will aim to put in their best performances in the IPL 2024 and will hope to get their hands on the coveted title. The women’s division of the franchise recently won the WPL (Women’s Premier League) 2024, defeating Delhi Capitals women in the final, and under the leadership of Faf du Plessis, the men’s team will strive for the same.
