Delhi Capitals continued their winning run in the Women’s Premier League as they beat UP Warriorz by 42 runs in their second game. Jess Jonassen put up a sensational all-round performance to script the second consecutive win for her side. Apart from the magnificent batting and bowling performance delivered by the team, a spectacular catch by Radha Yadav also made headlines during the game.

The incident took place on the first ball of the 11th over in the second innings which was bowled by Shikha Pandey. Deepti Sharma, who was on strike, perfectly timed a full-length delivery outside off stump and smacked it towards long-on. Radha Yadav, who was stationed at long-on, came running in and dived to her full length to complete a mind-boggling catch.

Coming back to the match, UP Warriorz made a surprise change in their playing XI by dropping the star of the last game Grace Harris to make way for Shabnim Ismail. Warriors Captain Alyssa Healy won the spin of the coin and invited the Capitals to bat first. Capitals’ captain Meg Lanning continued her brilliant form and scored another magnificent half-century. With her 70-run knock off 42 balls, she also became the leading run scorer in the tournament having added 142 runs to her name after the first two matches.

After losing their captain, Jemimah Rodrigues (34 off 22) and Jess Jonassen (42 off 20) gave a perfect finish to the innings with their 67-run stand in 34 balls. As a result, the Capitals posted a massive 211/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, the Warriorz’s batters succumbed under the huge scoreboard pressure and fell like a house of cards in front of the Capitals’ bowling attack. Tahlia McGrath was the lone warrior in the chase playing an incredible knock of 90 runs off 50 balls. For the Capitals, Jess Jonassen starred with the ball as well, scalping 3 wickets for 43 runs in four overs which helped Delhi in restricting Warriorz to 169/5 in 20 overs.  Jess Jonassen was deservedly awarded ‘Player of the Match’.
