'There will always be expectations, I like that' - Dewald Brevis as he awaits debut against Australia
"It's been an honour and it's been wonderful to live my dream and to spend time with the team. Couldn't have asked for anything better," Brevis said on the opportunity to join the Proteas setup.
Excitement is brewing as South African cricket sensation Dewald Brevis eagerly anticipates his international debut against Australia in a white-ball series commencing on August 30.
Brevis, who is known for his breathtaking shots and ultra-aggressive brand of cricket has already displayed his talent in the IPL, CPL, SA20, and MLC, and is all set to make his mark on the global stage now.
"I can't wait to just run straight into them, give your best," Brevis was quoted by ESPNcricinfo. With Australia's reputation as a cricket powerhouse, Brevis acknowledged the challenge ahead and said that it is going to be exciting because Australia are one of the top cricketing nations so it is going to be good cricket.
The young talent's inclusion in South Africa's ODI and T20I squads for the limited-overs series against Australia is a dream come true for him.
"It's been an honour and it's been wonderful to live my dream and to spend time with the team. Couldn't have asked for anything better," Brevis said on the opportunity to join the Proteas' esteemed setup.
Known as 'Baby AB' due to his stylistic resemblance to AB de Villiers, Brevis acknowledged the pressure that comes with expectations. "I know there will always be expectations and I always like that because there is more reason to show who you are then," he states confidently, embracing the challenge."
Looking back at the fiery South Africa-Australia clashes, Brevis hopes for a revival of that intense rivalry when the two teams lock horns. Memories of watching iconic battles between the two cricketing giants drive his anticipation for a heated contest:
"You can always see the rivalry is there and it's going to heed those situations and moments of the game. Whosoever is stronger and willing to fight more is going to end up on top," he added.
Drawing from his experience sharing a dressing room with Australian players like Cameron Green, Jason Behrendorff, and Tim David during his time with the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, Brevis emphasized the camaraderie transcending national borders.
"I know a few of them Cam Green, Jason Behrendorff, Tim David...it's really like if you play leagues you mix with all of the different nations cricketing wise and you learn to form a team with them also and spend time with them. But it's where I am now, it's your people, it's your call basically," he concluded.
