Don’t be surprised if CSK get Rishabh Pant by IPL 2025: Deep Dasgupta
Rishabh Pant has been with the Delhi Capitals since 2016.
Former India cricketer Deep Dasgupta explained in a recent interview why Rishabh Pant could play for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after their legendary captain MS Dhoni brings the curtains down on his illustrious career.
The talented wicketkeeper-batter, Pant, suffered a devastating accident on December 30, 2022. He is still recuperating after suffering multiple injuries and it is expected that his much-awaited comeback to competitive cricket is going to take place during the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Pant was roped in by the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) during the 2016 auction and has been an integral part of the franchise over the years.
Pant shares a special relationship with Dhoni, who is expected to retire from all forms of cricket after playing IPL 2024. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter helped Chennai win a record-equaling fifth IPL title earlier this year and would want to repeat the feat once again next year. Dasgupta, who is a revered commentator now, drew comparisons between Pant and Dhoni and explained why the former could be seen playing for the 'Men in Yellow' in IPL 2025.
“Don’t be surprised if they get Rishabh Pant by IPL 2025. MS Dhoni and Rishabh Pant are very close. Obviously, Rishabh adores MS, and MS also likes him very much. They spend a lot of time together. Their connection and Rishabh’s thinking are very similar, considering he is very attacking and positive. He’s always talking about winning and whatnot," Dasgupta said during a recent interview.
It is interesting to note that the talented Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has become a vital cog in the Chennai team in just a few seasons, has been touted by many as the potential successor of Dhoni after the stalwart's retirement. However, if Pant shifts base to Chennai, he will be the frontrunner to take up the role of captaincy from Dhoni as he already has the experience of leading the Capitals for two seasons.
