The Indian team has found itself in trouble after a lacklustre batting display on Day 2 of the fourth Test against Australia in Melbourne. The visitors managed to end the Australian innings on 474 runs but lost Rohit Sharma early when they came out to bat. At Stumps, their scorecard reads 164/5 and they trail by a huge 310-run margin.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was the substantial contributor with 82 runs and no other batter crossed the 40-run mark. Despite the early setback in the game, India spinner, Washington Sundar exuded optimism and believed that the team will bounce back in the remaining three days of the gameplay. For the unversed, the series is poised at 1-1 making the ongoing game a crucial one for both teams.

"We were in a great position to get big runs, but we will still come back and continue to fight tomorrow morning. The energy is very good in the dressing room, we are all positive. There's a long time in the game still three days, lots of overs to play. It's about us trying to fight really hard and get things done for the team,” said Sundar as quoted by TOI.

It will be a good surface to bat on: Sundar

Though India lost wickets in chunk, their scoring rate was impressive. Australians too leveraged the good batting conditions and racked up a total more than 450 runs in a span of almost five sessions. Sundar believed that the pitch will aid the batters well from Day 3 and the batters can garner runs as the surface becomes harder.

"It was a little soft yesterday because the sun didn't come out the whole day. The wicket also started to play a lot better today, and we batted really well. I guess tomorrow and the day after, it will be a good surface to bat on. The wicket won't change much, so it will be an exciting couple of days,” Sundar added.
