England announce squad for Bangladesh tour; Rehan Ahmed, Tom Abell set for white-ball debut
The tour will kick off with a three-match ODI series commencing on March 1.
England announced their squad for the upcoming white-ball tour of Bangladesh on Thursday, February 2, following the conclusion of the ODI series against hosts South Africa. The impending tour, which includes an ODI series followed by a T20I series, is set to witness the white-ball debut of young bowling sensation Rehan Ahmed after the 18-year-old was named in the squad for both series.
Following a convincing victory in the series finale against hosts South Africa, England have announced their squads for the white-ball tour of Bangladesh next month. While several key senior players will miss the ODI series commencing on March 1 due to their commitments with the Test team, Alex Hales has omitted the series due to his participation in the Pakistan Super League.
However, the big surprise for the English fans was the inclusion of 18-year-old Rehan Ahmed, who impressed on his Test debut against Pakistan in December last year. The Leicestershire spinner is likely to make his debut in the impending tour as he has been named in both ODI and T20I squads. Somerset's middle-order star Tom Abell is also in contention of making his debut in the upcoming tour of the subcontinent.
Meanwhile, Saqib Mahmood, who spent the entirety of the 2022 summer on the sidelines due to a stress fracture in his lower back, has been summoned to the squad for the 50-over series. Star pacer Mark Wood also returns to the squad after an extended break and is expected to share the new ball with the in-form Jofra Archer.
