'Everyone knows Mahi bhai' - Sudharsan praises Dhoni's emphasis on self-awareness and Virat's strong mindset as guiding influences in his cricket journey
Sai Sudharsan scored an unbeaten 104 off 110 balls for India A against Pakistan A in the ACC Men's Emerging Cup.
In the midst of the IPL 2023, a young talent named Sai Sudharsan emerged as a shining star for the Gujarat Titans. The injury to Kane Williamson allowed Sudharsan to prove his mettle as an Impact Player. His performance in the opening game, where he scored 22 off 17 balls, which caught the attention of the team management. They backed the youngster thoroughly. Consequently, this culminated in a stunning knock of 96 in the IPL final against the Chennai Super Kings.
Currently representing India A in the ACC Men's Emerging Teams Asia Cup, Sudharsan has been in sensational form. His tally of 191 runs in four innings, including an unbeaten century against Pakistan A, has further solidified his reputation as a promising talent.
In the same vein, speaking about his experiences and learnings, Sai Sudharsan shared valuable insights from interactions with cricketing legends. He recalled how MS Dhoni emphasized the importance of self-awareness, urging him to focus on his strengths and contributions to the team rather than trying to emulate others.
“Everyone knows Mahi bhai. He is very calm and whenever I speak to him, he always insists to know more about yourself and what you can do for the team. That is more important than trying and doing something or being someone else," Sudarshan stated.
Furthermore, the 21-year-old also revealed his experience of interacting with Virat Kohli. He hailed the legendary batter's strong work ethic and mindset. Hence, he wishes to adopt those traits which can make him a force to be reckoned with whenever he gets the chance to represent Team India.
“Virat’s mind is very strong. So, I want to take that trait from him. I have had conversations with him as well," Sudharsan told Star Sports.
Sudarshan has shown consistency in domestic cricket and List A cricket
Sai Sudharsan hails from Tamil Nadu and has already showcased his prowess in domestic cricket. He amassed 598 runs in eight first-class matches at an impressive average of 42.71, including two centuries and a fifty. His white-ball record is equally impressive, with 855 runs in 15 List-A matches at a staggering average of 65.76 and a strike rate of 103.13. In T20s, he has garnered 859 runs from 26 matches at a strike rate of 129.75, with five half-centuries to his name.
