Faf du Plessis recalls Steve Smith's arrogant behavior during 2018 Test series

Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis opened up on the arrogant behaviour from tainted Australia star Steve Smith during the 2018 Test series. In his autobiography, Du Plessis explained the Kagiso Rabada and Smith episode while suggesting that it was blown out of proportion. 

Incidentally, the 2018 Test series in South Africa changed Smith’s life forever as he was one of the three players involved in the infamous ball-tampering scandal during the Newlands Test alongside David Warner and Cameron Bancroft.

"This episode has almost been forgotten against the backdrop of what the series still had up its sleeve, or more accurately, down its trousers. They brushed shoulders during one of KG’s overs but Smith milked it like a football player. We knew that KG was one demerit point away from a suspension,” an excerpt from Faf du Plessis’ autobiography "Faf: Through Fire" read.

During the second Test match between South Africa and Australia at the St. George's Park in Port Elizabeth, Rabada trapped Smith in front of the wicket and celebrated aggressively in front of the latter. The premier South Africa fast bowler was elated at the dismissal and brushed shoulders with his counter-part.

An irate Smith spun around instantly and told his batting partner Shaun Marsh that there was some contact and then got the decision reviewed. The review turned out to be an unsuccessful one.

However, Rabada later had to face the consequences for his actions as he was handed a two-match suspension by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Luckily for the Proteas fast bowling spearhead, the ban was overturned following a six-hour appeal.

The two teams will be renewing their rivalry down under as they gear up for three Tests.

The series kicks off with the first match that will be played at The Gabba in Brisbane on Saturday, December 17.
