Former India cricketer Praveen Kumar met with an accident on the night of July 4, Tuesday, in Meerut. Near the Meerut commissioner's bungalow, a canter moving at a high speed struck the former pacer. When the local police arrived, they took the accused canter driver's automobile into custody.

The crowd soon gathered at the spot after the collision, and it was they who managed to apprehend the alleged driver. The Civil Line police station arrived at the location after getting the information. The former fast bowler was driving his Land Rover and was returning from Pandav Nagar when the incident took place. Fortunately, he and his son were unharmed, and as the police arrived, the canter driver was taken into custody.

Notably, this is not the first time that Praveen has incurred with an accident. During his homecoming reception that was organised in the year 2007 in Meerut, Praveen fell from his open Jeep and hurt himself. Luckily, Praveen was not hurt this time when his SUV collided with the truck.

"It could have been a lot worse. By the grace of god, we are okay and I am talking to you. I had gone to drop my nephew but a massive truck hit my car from behind around 9.30pm. Thank god it [his] was a big car, else there could have been injuries. I initially thought just the bumper would be broken but the car is badly damaged," Praveen was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

Between 2007 and 2012, Praveen, now 36, participated in six Tests, 68 ODIs, and ten T20Is, taking 27, 77, and eight wickets in the formats, respectively. He announced his retirement at the age of 32, in October 2018. He played a key role in India's victory over Sri Lanka in the ODI tri-series that took place in Australia in 2008.

He claimed a four-wicket haul, thereby dismissing big players like Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist and helped India defend their total and win the series.
