Former Indian cricketer's son, Harry Singh joins England squad as 12th man

Harry’s father RP Singh represented India in two ODIs against Australia in 1986.

Former India pacer, RP Singh Senior's son, Harry Singh, is part of the England team taking on Sri Lanka in the first Test at Old Trafford. For the uninitiated ones, Harry’s father RP Singh Sr. had represented India in two ODIs against Australia in 1986. He also played 59 first-class matches and took 150 wickets. Harry carried his love for cricket from his childhood days after his father relocated to England in the late 1990s.

RP Singh Sr, after migrating to the UK, started his stint with the Lancashire County Cricket Club (LCCC) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). At eight years of age, Harry was selected for Lancashire's pathway system. In 2023, the 20-year-old made represented Lancashire in the One-Day Cup, making his List A debut after joining prestigious Lancs Academy at the age of 15. He also features for England’s Under 19 team, which played a home series against Sri Lanka in 2022.

In seven games for Lancashire, the Indian lineage cricketer has scored 87 runs at an average of 12.42, with a strike rate of 64.44 and the highest score of 25. He is handy with the ball too, as he has shown his prowess by plucking two wickets in the limited overs he bowled.

The right-handed batter is inducted as the 12th man in the England senior men’s team against Sri Lanka. He will be eyeing a substantial position in the England squad with skipper Ben Stokes and Coach Brendan McCullum as England hope for a resurgence in Ashes 2025.

“I started playing cricket at the age of four, joined Lancashire’s pathway system at eight and have been on the Lancs Academy since I was 15 - so it has been a long journey for me to reach this point,” Harry had said as quoted by Hindustan Times.
