Mohammed Shami and Umran Malik got candid in a recent interaction after the conclusion of India versus New Zealand 2nd ODI at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, January 21. Both the players opened up in a candid conversation post the completion of India's convincing win over the Blackcaps.

Shami was the Player of the Match in the second ODI for his brilliant spell as he took three crucial wickets and scalped two of the main batters of the New Zealand team. Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Hardik Pandya got a flurry of early wickets leaving the opposition hanging on 15 runs with half their line-up back to the hutch.

After making light work of New Zealand's batting order, Shami joined young gun Umran for a free-wheeling chat on bcci.tv. Umran asked the experienced fast bowler as to what is his secret to success in ODI cricket.

Shami who seemed in a jolly mood said, "Smile rakho, white ball hai, maar to sabko padni hai. Bas apne pe believe karo, apne skill pe believe karo aur bas jo wicket mein ho raha hai, usko thoda sa dekh ke chalte raho (keep smiling, it's white ball cricket, so everyone will get hit. Just believe in yourself and your skill and try to get a little out of the wicket).”

Shami then gave some motivation and advice to the youngster by saying, “Aapke liye bhi ek cheez bolna chahunga, bahut dum hai, future accha hai, aapke liye bas ek hi advice hai, jitni aapke paas pace hai, mujhe lagta nahi use easy hai khelna. Bas thoda sa work ki zarurat hai length (ko control karne ki).

"Bas agar usko control kar lenge to ham duniya pe raaj karenge (I also have an advice for you. You have a lot of talent, the future looks bright. With the kind of pace you have, I don't think it's easy to play against. Just work a little on controlling your line and length. Then, you can conquer the world)."

India and New Zealand are going head to head right now in white-ball cricket. New Zealand's ongoing tour includes three ODIs and three T20Is. In the ODI series, India have gained an unassailable lead and are 2-0 ahead going into the third game of the series in Indore.

The first game between the sides was a gripping one as it was a high-scoring encounter, which India won by just 12 runs. However, the second ODI was a pretty one-sided affair as India cruised to an eight-wicket victory.
